Backyard Wedding :: the cranberry bog :: Jill & Brian
Jill and Brian were married on the edge of a cranberry bog in the bride’s parents’ backyard in Carver, Massachusetts.
I first met Jill and Brian in the Spring at our local ice cream shop. I was referred to them by a mutual friend, and as it turns out we all live in the same neighborhood. I don’t remember if we had ice cream. I think it was cold that day.
I do remember asking them how they met. And I remember Brian sharing with me how important Jill was to him. And I remember myself tearing up. And trying to hold it back.
And I remember feeling as if I knew these two really well even though we had just met. And what I really wanted was to photograph their wedding in a personal and real way.
Nearly 6 months later I knocked on the door on Cranberry Road and it was Jill’s wedding day and we were all there, her sisters and mother and I (me the silent part of all of this aside from the clicking of my shutter).
And from that point forward time just rolls on, clocks tick, the sun moves across the sky, geese soar, the wine is poured, darkness falls, we eat ice cream, we laugh and cry and dance together.
Before I know it (truly) I am packing up the cameras that have shown me the day as it was. Or at least as I saw it.
These are so much more than photographs. There is a feeling here. Take it in.
